IN s3, s4, s5 etc.

New member and I have a question. I have an 87 GXl, but I've seen questions for s4, s5 etc. Will somebody explain what they the s numbers stand for?

Thanks, Terry

The "S" numbers are the series numbers.

SA, S2, S3 = 1st generation RX7s
S4, S5 = 2nd generation
S6+ = 3rd generation

It's just like the number scheme used with many other cars. IE a C5 vs. a C6 corvette, etc...

This info is in the 2nd gen FAQ sticky at the top of this forum. It contains a list of all common acronyms.

One correction. The SA is not really part of this designation. The SA is an S1. It is the 79/80 first gen cars. The 81-85's were also called FB's. Because that is the first two letters of all the VIN's.
