My car idles smooth and lays down acloud of smoke sometimes and other times not, i have acheck engien light on, alsoi have aceelerationproblems bogs down when i floor it ,poping ans sputtering back through the exhaust, I am having a heck of a time finding someone to help or even work on the car,

i have a 1991 rx7 convertable, its bogs down when i acellerate, sputters and back fires, i also have blue smoke with quits and seems to come back and quits again can anyone help? I am having trouble finding someone or a shop here in san antonio to help fix my problem

if your blowing blue smoke then you have a problem. You are burning water with your fuel. Your engine is basically shot and needs to be rebuilt. Sad but true

 

Start with a full tuneup.

 

Careful now... You are making a wild guess, but stating it as fact. Not good.


There are three possibilities for the source of smoke:

1. Running very rich, extra fuel causing blue smoke which smells like raw fuel.
2. Oil control rings; will usually emit clouds of smoke when decelerating from high rpms. Really bad cases may smoke all the time. Exhaust will smell like burnt oil.
3. Water. Assuming that you have antifreeze in the radiator, exhaust will be white clouds and smell sweet.

Potential solutions:

1. Burning fuel: Most likely a bad sensor, maybe a temp sensor.
2. Burning oil: You may be able to reduce this enough to get by if you replace one quart of oil with one quart of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer.
3. Water: Loss of an internal water seal means that you need to rebuild the motor. However, I recently saved a motor with bad coolant seals by using a product called Alumiseal. There is a full writeup on this located in the Archives in the 1st gen section. Cost was under 4 dollars, and it took about 15 minutes to completely stop the coolant loss.

Just backing up Kent here. Blue smoke has nothing to do with antifreeze. Big white clouds are the result of that. If it were a piston engine I would say it needs a rebuild from worn rings lowering compression causing rich fuel mixture and burning oil.

 

Oh damn i thought i was the only one with a 91 vert that did the saaame exact thing.
