Rubber seal on air filter has melted
I have an 85 GSL SE 13b with 72,000 miles. It has been laid up since Feb 04. Just got it running for the first time in 9 years. I had to pry the air filter cover open. The rubber seal on the air filter has melted to the air filter housing and cover. It has the consistency and look of black tar. Does anyone have any ideas on how to easily remove the sticky gooey mess?

Tried a bunch of stuff
I tried adhesive remover, mineral spirits, etc. Finally got a reaction with Purple Power, of all things. End up scraping most of it out with a putty knife. Took most of the box down to bare metal (had some rust on the outside) with a wire wheel, sanded it with some 600 grit and primed it with Dupli-Color Engine Enamal primer. Can anyone tell me how long I need to let the primer cure before applying the top coat?
