Ok so i got a used rb header and presilencer. I have an 87 N/A and i want to know what its gonna take to install this bad boy. I know there is an issue with back pressure on the 5th and 6th ports if it is straightpiped. What if i hook up the presilencer to the stock Y-pipe? I also heard of a way to make my airpump give back pressure to the ports. O and if any one has any pointers on removal that would be awesome thanks guys!

 

I just bought some pace setter headers and am trying to install them. on my '87 na rx7 I noticed the heat shield and some solenoid looking parts in the way of the top bolts on the exhaust manifold. Any pointers with removal and/or installation would help

 

I just got done putting on header on my 87 GXL. It was not all that hard. You can get to all the bolts from under the car with a good size ratchet and a small extension not to small but a good sized one. Plus a can of PB blaster will come in handy. When it comes time to install. Reverse works best start with the header bolts and work your way back. It only took me about an hour or so to get the job done. Best of luck to ya both. It will sound great. I have no cats and 2 and a half inch pipe all the way back to a single exit.

 

Heat shield won't fit at all over the Header, scrap it. You shouldnt need to take the actuators off to get the top two bolts, but patients is key. Slow slow turns with a wrench and it will come off, and same going back on.

 

Don't just toss away the heat shield. Wrap the headers in two layers of heat wrap, or make a sheet metal piece to act as a shield, or both. Heat from that area will bake everything around the header.

 

Removing the actauators will actually give you a clear shot at the upper exhaust manifold bolts.
The actuators are real easy to get off too,just take the 2-10mm nuts off each one,give them a tap to loosen them from the gasket and pull, Voila!
Just make note of the position of the pin of the actuator shaft,so you know that they are gonna open and close properly.Note how they look coming off and replace them the same way.
Gaskets for them are about 2 bucks each at the dealer.
