Porting an 12a 1st gen

Hi, in Ryan and I've been learning about rotarys in the past year, mostly by driving my 79'. I picked up an 80' RX7 last month and started looking into porting, I want to go to an extended port but I honestly don't know what all I'm getting myself into, I just need some advice on if this is the correct choice or if their are better choices than an extended port. Also the cost and what I'd have to do after porting it so it would run properly. Anything helps guys!

welcome to the board.

start by reading. there is a sticky in this section for people like you - who are interested in porting and need a starting point. reading and learning what your choices are and then seeing how they align with your desires is paramount.

what do you want from the porting?
what, if anything, are you willing to give up for it?

also, i just want to commend you on not being afraid to admit that you don't know. keep an open mind.

Thanks, and yea I'm still pretty new to Rotarys haha. What I want out of it is a little more power, me and a couple friends have a project we're starting by rebuilding a 12a, during which we want to port it, and just build it up over time. It's a lot of money so it will be a while but I'm willing to put around 4000$ into it myself and they're willing to put about 6000$ Into it. But we're not sure how much we can port it for it to receive power, and still maintain drivability on the road. We're just unsure on what would be the best option for power and drivability, and what we would have to do to keep it drivable without doing to much damage to the engine by not upgrading the important parts. Sorry if this is confusing, I'm trying to explain the best I can. And I'll be sure to read on this too, I just find it simpler to ask what I want to know rather than looking in a million different places for a couple answers. Thanks again!
