Poppin' the Cherry. '88 'vert to S5 Turbo.
I've owned RX-7s for years and have enjoyed all the threads on this forum, you guys have all helped immensely with the minor projects that I have undertaken. But now I'm finally getting serious.
So I'm starting up an Alaskan project. I have plenty of time to pull the car apart during the winter so I picked up a convertible in good shape and an S5 engine/tranny to go in it. I'm still looking for a TII rear end, if I can't get one in the next couple of months I'll be ordering the MazdaTrix hybrid driveshaft as a temp fix.
This winter I'm just trying to get the new engine in and running. My last FC had an exhaust from Racing Beat and it was amazing so I've ordered another one for this project. There is also an FD upper manifold and throttle body on their way. I have the TII ECU and wiring harness, what else will I need in order to get this baby purring? I've heard that the submember on the convertible is too bulky for a downpipe.
I'm also going to order the V-mount intercooler kit from Neukin. I've heard this is a great kit but the company is small so the order processing speed is less than optimal. Considering that I won't be driving the car for another couple of months, the delay doesn't bother me.
So.. I need to splice some wiring behind the dash, adjust the TPS wires, get a MAF, overide the rear-rotor fuel cut due to increased boost caused by the less restricted airflow.. right?
Next winter will see me getting a Haltech, fuel system (pump, lines, injectors, etc.), and turbo/manifold upgrade. The year after that shoud be the body kit, wheels, brakes.
Any tips/suggestions?
