Polished rotors?
Polished rotors?
hi guys. i was watching a video from pineapple racing where the guy was cleaning a rotor with a wire brush and i remembered a friend of mine, who was polishing piston crowns claiming that it kept them "muck free" from carbon deposits, and thus making it less prone to knocking. i was wondering, do rotors need to have a textured surface, or polishing them might be a good idea... (if it does any good, i bet it wont be noticable, but , just an idea...)
the theory is good. i've known a handful of guys that have done it over the years. i've tried it with a few engines since 2006 or so, but i've had no reason to tear any of them down again, so i can't say how they fared in terms of carbon. i can't say i've seen anyone else report on it after the fact either. if you have the engine apart and have the opportunity (time and means), then i'd say give it a try. if not, i wouldn't lose sleep over it. just make sure the rotors are as clean as you can make them (moreso in the seal slots) before assembly.
It could help with problems like preignition, but plain old knock will happen if the conditions are right.
For turbocharged rotaries where knock is truly critical, water injection is a seriously effective anti-knock and anti-carbon method.

thanks for the input guys... yeah ideally i'm gonna run water meth on mine , especially cause fuel is so expensive over here than noone even buys 100 octane anymore (its around 1.8 euros per litre, with 95 oct following around 1.65euro/lt)
