please, please,please help

So I have a 84 gsl-se and its got some issues, it spudders when i mash the gas and back fires, it feels slugish while driving, I have replaced the coolant sensor, oxygen sensor, tuned tps (with help from here thanks), mass sensor seems to be working fine flap moves freely and has tension, replaced cap, rotor, wiers, plugs, thermostat, also has an adjustable fuel pressure regulator at 45psi, is comepletly stock, i was thinking cat., with that said it doesn't over heat, I have had other 7s before though 12a carbed, so any suggestion please

i have this problem but it was only at a certain point (around 4,000 rpm) when i first got my rx7. mine is a 2nd gen... i have tons of aftermarket **** on it and i bought a mugen racing fuel pressure regulator and put that on, then i paid a ton of money having my starter rebuilt and my performance parts tuned and as soon as i got my car from the shop it bogs and sputters like mad. barely gets going half the time... this sounds like your car too.

i checked the fuel pressure on mine and they have it tuned to 2.2 bar (about 31 psi)...... is that too low? not only this but there is smoke coming out from where my exhaust and turbo are connected and that never happened until my car was worked on at this shop. another thing is that my air/fuel ratio gauge used to read about 12:1 or 13:1 when i was driving, now my gauge is literally maxed out beyond 18:1 as soon as i touch the gas pedal.

someone help me with this because i have a feeling me and pedroybeba have quite the same problem. im thinking too much air and not enough fuel...?

I had a very similar problem in my '81...mine turned out to be a fuel flow problem, the fuel pump was sending too much fuel to the carb and the carb needed to be rebuilt. I took it to a guy in town and he did everything for me (new pump and rebuilt the carb) for $400...PM or email me crash28@gmail.com and I can pass you his information if you're interested.

You mentioned the aftermarket FPR is at 45psi. Is that at idle or 0 manifold pressure (atmosphere)?

Stock fuel pressure on a GSL-SE 13b is 28.44psi at idle and 36.97psi. Either way 45psi is considerably higher fuel pressure than stock, which means you're injecting a lot more fuel than you need to be.

4B-57 of the '85 manual
