overheating question

i have 2 gen 1's and i want to go from a 12a to 13b. i found locally an engine (13b) that the seller states was 'overheated but not badly'. rotory's are new so i'll ask, can it ever be not bad? he thinks it needs apex seals and thats it, he just did a turbo II swap. i was thinking of getting it and checking the compression to see what its at. would that tell me anything?? i know low compression is bad but it its a blown seal would i hear it vs a bad housing might just be low compression? anyone have little tips or tricks to help me figure this out?
thanks
oh yeah $100 for the whole engine.

I would not recommend buying an engine that has been overheated. If it was overheated once, it was overheated more then once.

Then again, $100 is hard to argue with.

I agree. Worst case scenario you have a long block to rebuild.
