Over Heating !!

hey everyone,

so this is my first post and i hope im doing this right .. haha

well i recently bought a 91 non-turbo but when i bought it i didnt realize it overheats. i guess because i bought it for less the 2k. so anyways i replaced the water pump, thermostat and will replace the radiator with an aftermarket one when i bring it to a shop because it needs new mounts. im thinking i just might have to replace the radiator then see whats up but im not sure. also i noticed that radiator in it now isnt the stock one which was hard for me to change the coolant because i couldnt bleed it properly. so i let it run on idle for a while with the cap off and it seemed to just bubble all the air out. it maintains temp but once i try to rev up to even 3k for a little the temp slowly creeps on. then on my dash im getting the "add coolant" alarm and theres a plug for a sensor on top of the non stock radiator. wondering if thats whats causing the alarm to go off or am i really low on coolant. i dont think i am because the radiators full and the expansion tank is full. help ?

sincerely,
brand new

So one possibility is your fan clutch my not be working correctly.

Are you saying the spot where the sensor is supposed to be there is just a plug? So what is the wiring to the sensor doing right now? Just hanging out?

After the engine is warmed up.. the fan clutch should feel solid and not spin free at all if you try to spin the fan by hand.

Oh if the wire is not connected to anything.. that would cause the alarm to be just going off. It should be connected to a sensor that plugs into the top of the radiator. If for whatever reason you don't want the sensor to be plugged into anything, then a trick you can do to get rid of the alarm is to just ground the wiring.

Possibly have air in the cooling system ? try water wetter or maybe switch to electric fans and free up some hp while you are at it ?
