NV OK started working on her

OK,
I am working on a 1989 FC S5, GLX
it is not running yet

I have been through the ignition system, I hooked a timing light to all my coil outputs and I get a reading at all 4. kind of a hokey test but it worked

I have replaced the air fiilter and all 4 plugs are new.

Now I am onto the fuel system, I thought I smelled gas at the intake, might just be engine smells after re-evauluating last night....but.....it doesn't seem like the fuel pump is working. How loud should it actually be listening at the fuel door or the access port in the floor.....can I test it by hooking it up directly to 12v, that way I can check the relay and the pump. or am I starting at the wrong end

Thanks in advance

Definitely the wrong end.

There's a two pin yellow/green connector near the air filter box that triggers the fuel pump. Plug a jumper wire into those two pins and the fuel pump should run when the key is on.
