oil on plastic tray under carb

Hi to all. I was working on my 1979 RX7 and noticed a puddle of oil under the carb. it is on a plastic tray right under the carb. I wiped it off but even with the car not running I seemed to puddle again but not very much. I have yet to fire it up to check and see if more appears. It almost looks like it is there for that purpuse. There is also a little at the top of the carb where the air cleaner housing but I noticed a rubber seal around the housing. I dont think I took the time before to make sure that the seal was tight. Is this a normal condition? I have another question but will put the into another thread. Wally, Thanks again for everones help.

In fact, I have the same problem with my '79. Oil & gas seem to evaporate away. Still, it's a fire hazard, and needs to be looked into and fixed.
