I recently acquired my fd that had been sitting in a garage for years. The owner had claimed the turbo down pipe was replaced by the owner before him.
I didn't know i needed to care about that (disintegrating pre-cat) until I started reading up on this forum.
With the car up on the rack, the down-pipe looks pretty much OEM to me.
My noob questions:
- Am I looking at the right thing?
- Can an OEM down pipe be hollowed out to get rid of the pre-cat and re-installed?
- Is there a way to verify if OEM or not?
- Should I just remove the darn thing and replace it (or hollow it out) just to be sure?
The answer to all your questions is to remove the stock pre-cat/downpipe and replace it with an aftermarket. Just about anything other than megan is an upgrade. The hks seems to be pretty popular
Despite it being pretty pricey, I would consider replacing the downpipe to Manifold gasket.
Heat-coating or wrapping the replacement dp also is highly recommended.
So the previous owner called and said he has found some parts for the fd that I can have. One of them is a downpipe. The never installed downpipe says 'TRUST" on the sticker attached to it.
I did research on this site and on the web and most I can find is that that the TRUST is a GReddy GDM pipe and only fits 99+ RX7s??? Mine is a '93 and not JDM.
Before I remove my stock dp only to find out that the TRUST dp doesnt actually fit.... Can anyone verify that yes the TRUST dp is only for 99+ FDs?
