Angry No start- fuel issues?

Hey guys, been a member for awhile but always browsing, I just recently picked up a 90 rx7 gxl 13b non turbo, 200k. Its got some problems but the major issue is it doesn't run. I've checked it has spark and compression, not great but enough to run. I pulled the pump and checked and it seems to be in ok shape, its got pressure when running (hard to check properly is they're a proper way of checking?) and the fuel filter isn't clogged but doesn't run. If I spray something flammable into the intake I can get it running, my question is: is there a common electrical problem that could cause a fuel delivery problem? Or where else do I go from this, i'm almost ready to pull this engine out and drop in a v8!

If you can get the car going with Starter fluid, then Everything is "OK "but the FUEL delivery.
Check pressure with an Inline Gauge.you have to place it on one of the Hoses,Preferably After the Injector rails.(that will tell you that you are getting pressure to the Injectors).
Now,have you checked the EGI Fuse on the car to see if it is blown(Fuse block in the engine bay)?.That fuse is ther to protect the injectors.Blown Fuse, no Fuel.
Is the Air Flow meter Hooked up?(Big *** connector where the air filter is).,The car will start and Die if it is not hooked up.
WAS the car running when you Got it?..Can you ask the former owner What he did to it?
have you done a Compression check of the Engine?..
Are all Vacuum hoses Intact and NOT ripped, torn off or Leaking?
anyways.Check out some of that and then Post up your findings.

Hey, thanks for the help, got some updates, so the engine has compression (not alot but Im unsure of the correct psi or fuel pressure psi either), egi fuse is good, vacuum hoses are intact and I bought the car not running. Got any more ideas? Is there a common problem maybe electrical wise at all or is there a a flow chart that anyone has for a no start condition (rather then the basic stuff, check compression, spark and fuel?) Thanks.

Ok, I've got a little update, the fuel pump doesnt seem to kick on with the key, but with the test connector jumped the pump will put out full pressure, the relay is good (checked resistances in the relay) and found a fuel pump resistor to be out of spec, so maybe that is the possible problem? Is there anyone out there that has a wiring diagram for the fuel system? Any help is appreciated thanks.

pull one of the fuel lines off the fuel rail and put it in an empty soday bottle. then turn the key to on, and push the little door on the air flow meter. if u get spray of fluid into the bottle, then ur fuel is getting to the motor. if not, plug that line back in then pull the other hose and stick it in the bottle. if still no fuel when u push open the door, then there is a clog or kink in the line between the fuel pump and the motor. trace ur lines and check. if u get fuel but still no start, then do an injector test. plug in noids to the plugs that go into the fuel injectors and attempt to crank. if the lights flash then the injectors are getting juice. if not then , there is a problem sending power to the injectors. check the fuses and make sure there is power going thru them. keep us informed.

if the motor hasent been ran for a long time it could just be that it needs a little help try push starting it or pull starting it behind a truck but make sure you use a proper tow rope and atatch it to the tow hook under the front of the car. turn the key to the on position put in either first or second and slowly release the clutch at a low speed so you dont cause any abrupt tension possibly bending something then put the gas pedal to the floor with your foot on the clutch so if/when it starts you can push it in so you dont go flyin into the back of the truck and you can keep the motor runnin. also it may not be a bad idea to have phone comunication by having it on speaker and setting the phone somewhere so it dosent slide away while doing this. i wish you the best of luck and hope this helps. P.S this is how i got my 86 gxl running and it has ran great ever since also when it dose start letit idle for about 5 minutes. WOW that was long lol

Make sure Air flow meter is plugged in ... make sure it is plugged in correctly it will go in upside down.

As for the fuel issue the fuel pump only turns on when the car ignition is in the start location... once the air flow meter flap moves (from sucking in air) it it tells the pump to stay on when the car ignition is in on mode. The car will not prime itself while the key is in the on position.
