John,

This is more of a technical question than it is an introduction of yourself and what made you go rotary, so I moved it here in the New Member tech board.

That being said, I can't help because your car is the 1stgen GSL-SE which is EFI and I'm just an old Nikki carburetor guy. Let's see if any of the -SE or 2ndgen guru's can help. It's a common problem, for sure, on these cars when they aren't used. They really hate it.

thanks for the help. had my intro that way because i am really excited in getting this car on the road. this is my first rotary and the whole idea just fascinates me. I have been into sport compacts for some time, but i wanted something different from the usual honda or 240sx like so many people have.

i'm not much on FI either but first thing u need to do is drain the gas an put some fresh in it and new fuel filter. then check the compression. u may just want to put new wires, plugs, cap and rotor button.

It's most likely flooded. Pull the spark plugs, spray them down with brake cleaner then blow them dry. Take a small turkey baster, squirt a teaspoon of motor oil into each lower spark plug hole, replace the plugs. Pull the engine fuse from under the dash, try starting the engine. As soon as it catches, replace fuse. If it's close to starting but still won't, pull start it.

Since the car has sat for so long, I would clean the entire fuel system and do the 60k maintenance package. If the engine continues to flood, then it's time to have the injectors sent out for cleaning.
