New to the RX-7

So a friend of mine was building an RX-7 and enlisted himself in the Marines, now he's gone and he has no use for the car so he gave it to me. I know nothing about rotary engines and I kind of need some starting advice.

It's a 1st Generation body with a FD engine, and it has some work done to it, but sadly I have no idea what. It runs but I have to lightly gas it a few times before it can get enough fuel to actually move forward, which is the main problem, not sure if its the fuel pump or the injectors or what it might be. Also if I rev it past about 7k RPMs it shuts off...which is somewhat of a problem.

I'm sure there is more to it than that but I figured I'd start off with the main problem, not sure if I want to make this a new project car or if I want to just make it runnable and sell it. I work mostly with Hondas and I do love the power you can get from a rotary so I would really like to get into the game =)

Thanks.

There is a lot to learn about these cars> I really hope you find it worth the time and keep the project.

Is the car fuel injected? and, How long did it sit before you got it from your friend?

if it really does has an FD motor 93+ (the yaer of the car it came out of) i would say thats NOT a good starter car for you. there could be SOOOOOO many issues. for a beginer i would say try and find a good or atleast somewhat clean car to start with and do tons of reading. there is 1000+ pages on this website. think of it as a bible. to try and diagnose a problem of that magnitude with that kind of motor swap would be very very hard. not trying to discurage you im just giving some friendly advice.
