As I understand it (and keep in mind that I know nothing about drifting), all you need to do is set up the car to oversteer.
So get a crappy set of rear tires, and swap them on when you get to the track. That's probably the easiest way to make a car tail happy yet keep it safe and fun on the street.

I really wouldn't know. From what I see about drifting it's kind of like figure skating. It seems to attract a big crowd of kids (unlike figure skating) and gets mixed up with things like DJs, bikini contests and video games. I'm too old for stuff like that.

drifting is a little bit more complicated then having a bad set of tires my friend.....you need to make your car as soild as possible...for example....strut braces everywhere you can, good set of coilovers..make that car so it has zero body roll....2 way limited slip diff...so equal power is put to each tire(some you can get to lock up on high rpm down shifting)...and a decent amout of power with GOOD TIRES....drifting at high speed you must have good tires in order to push you forward while getting slideways...if not you will oversteer everytime....anyone can get the tires to spin....having full control is the hard part

Shows how much I know about drifting then. After all, I'm 30 years old so it's well out of my age range. I come from a time when cars are set up to handle and not oversteer.

for starting out u could use a set of older tires or less tread tires to get the feel of your back end kicking and and how to conter steer and stuff like that.......but only at lower speeds and wider corners.....as soon as you start doing drifts at high speeds and big angle corners you need good tires to keep pushing the car forward while spining

no yu dont wont to take them off.....they help you eliminate body roll....if you have body roll its going to put most of the pressure on your outside tires and really wear off your sidewall...also with having strut braces makes your car able to turn qwick with a hard turn and a fast counter steer...you some be able to get sideways no matter what....all you really need the power for is keeping to rpms up so you can hold longer drifts and tweak them
