New to rotaries, anyone know what just happened to my engine?

So my 87 RX-7 has 275,000 miles and was running fine. I'm told the previous owner re-built it at around 150,000. So I figured the engine might be getting tired again. Anyways, I was driving it one day and all of a sudden my oil pressure dropped to 0. Blue smoke poured out of the exhaust. When I popped the hood, the entire engine was covered in oil. Did I blow an apex seal? I am new to rotaries, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Brad

Apex seals are unrelated to oil. It sounds more like an oil cooler line exploded.

clean the motor get all the oil off the motor. Then try and find where all the oil came from. You can use a dye were you can see it with a black light and find the leak. best of luck

check the oil injector lines, if you still have the OMP. Those lines get brittle with age and heat and can explode spraying oil everywhere and fubar-ing your engine in the process.

Depending where the oil is we can give you a more detailed and accurate idea of where the issue is.

PS. The only way an apex seal could have done that is if your engine literally exploded and chucked the apex seal through a housings taking out an oil channel on the way.

Thanks for all the input! I'm still learning how rotaries work, and I will definitely check my cooler and injector lines. Maybe I'll be driving it again soon! However, I dyno-ed it at only about 82 HP so I would like to rebuild or replace the engine anyways.
