new and have problems please help

can someone help me i just picked up a 88 and have no idea how rotaries work at the moment. The problem is when i drive it is super slow until about 3500 rpms then it kicks like crazy but under that rpm and stomping on the gas peddle it wont go much. The car idles perfectly with no smoke and drives like a dream in the high revs. IT just lags and doesnt get much response in the low end any ideas?

Sounds like you have a n/a motor with non working 5/6th ports. Search around and you will get the idea of what they do.

Aux ports being closed wouldn't affect the low end, only the top end. It's possible someone wired them open, which would cause the motor to bog some below 3.5k. Though, it may just be you're not used to the powerband of a NA rotary. Torque is limited before 3.5k, but you'll have a very linear band nearly to redline.
