So im in need of some assistance. I just recently bought a 93 RX-7 in place of my 85 i had about 2 yrs ago. The car needs a few minor fixes but i know the big fix is my transmission. There is some kind of restriction in the way of it going to reverse. Every other gear works fine and no transition problems like grinding or anything. Any ideas before i go take it to a shop to get it looked at?

I don't have any ideas but..
Here is a competent shop in Ohio

Here is another thread where someone is having a similar problem:

Give it a read and see how it progresses.

Keep in mind it's also normal for reverse gear to resist some of the time. Simply put it in neutral and clutch in/out and try reverse again. This repositions the gear teeth and almost always works.
The transmission on these cars is nothing special. Any good transmission shop can help diagnose or fix your problem. If you opt to replace the transmission keep in mind that you can buy low mileage used transmissions for well under $1000 ($600-750 shipped I think) rather than pay dealer markups for new parts. These low mileage imported transmissions usually beat out any rebuild work on price. Fortunately for you, if there is a problem with reverse gear it does not require a full teardown to get to it, so a rebuild may be the best option.
