New '90 GTU, Need Help On Some Things...

Hi there,
So my mechanical knowledge is really limited, but I'm really interested in doing these things myself, so I have a few probably noobish questions maybe someone could help with:

1- My drivers side window switches are broken, and the guy who sold me my car included a new set with the car. It looks EXACTLY like the broken one which is in the door right now, but my mechanic says it's not the right part. I don't really see how this is possible, since they're pretty much identical. Here's a picture of the switches I'm trying to install:

2- My driver's side front turn signal/standing light isn't working right. It works fine when I use it as a turn signal, but when I turn my headlight **** just the one click to turn on the standing lights, it doesn't illuminate. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

Thanks, I appreciate any and all help.

1) That's an S4 switch, but it shouldn't matter. I think the wiring is the same. And it's very easy to check. Just pop the old one up, unplug it and try the new one. For what it's worth, you can usually get the window switches working again by cleaning the internal contacts. There are 4 little copper pieces inside that move with the switch, and often get burned up from all the current going through there. Polish them up, and it'll usually work like new.

2) Sounds like an issue with the light switch itself. The solder points inside can go cold, and certain functions will stop working like they used to. If that's the case, your options would be to either open it up and resolder the joints, or try a replacement.
