Neighbor's 2nd gen

My neighbor says his turbo glows when he barely drives his 2nd gen RX7 and says it feels down on power.

What could possibly be wrong?

Too much fuel or not enough timing. Could just need a tuneup as well.

With the lack of info, I'm going to say that the cat is clogged.

timing could be off, afr's could be too rich. search "glowing turbo" and you'll find tons of threads on this topic.

Well there are a few things, though the one that comes to my mind is: How old is the exhaust system? Unless its newish then the pair/trio of catalytic converters could very well be clogged and its causing power loss. Solution is to replace them with a high flow cat if in an emissions state, or run a test pipe and watch boost levels in case of boost creep from the opened exhaust.

Super lean air-fuel mixture. Have it tuned.

Make sure the CAS is stabbed correctly.
Aaron stated otherwise, it's more likely due to running rich than lean.

A glowing turbo on a rotary car is almost never, ever, due to a lean condition.
