I speak from experience when I say buy something reliable first, and then a toy when you can afford it.

You said the 2nd gen was your favourite, so I replied to buy your favourite.

Unless something else is missing from your question?

Don't buy a 3rd gen. Buy a non-turbo 2nd gen or 1st gen.

That's gonna be a non-modded 2nd gen non-turbo. As long as it's stock it is fairly reliable for a rotary

Same. Buy a service manual for the car you are considering if you want to learn more.

If you want to talk reliability, nothing beats a 12A 1st gen. However the lack of power will seem boring, and parts are getting hard to find. Also, many of those cars are just plain worn out.

A 2nd gen NA is then the next logical place to start. Very reliable, easy to work on, and parts are easily available. Not much in the power potential range, but when you want more power you can move up to turbo.

Oil change is the same as a piston engine. Check the FAQ for the FSM, and get yourself a copy of the Haynes manual.
