NA to Turbo Buying Guide
NA to Turbo Buying Guide
This is my first post on the forum. I am interested in buying what the seller claims is a 91 FC NA to Turbo II swap completed 8 years ago. I read through Aaroncake.net non turbo and turbo buying guides, I've read many forum posts/guides. I've read several swap threads and I know well enough to look for normal things like rust, accident damage etc etc. I have access to compression tester and a rotary compression tester, so I will check compression when I look at the car. I know to check for turbo shaft play and things outlined in the guide etc etc.
There is some peculiarities about what the seller claims the car is. For examples, he states it is 75k km into a rebuild, but does not have any paperwork/receipts/pics etc of the rebuild... My guess, is that the swap was done 8 years and 75k km ago. Even if it has been rebuilt, I'm guessing it's about half way or less through it's life.
What I really can't seem to find is anything related to a what to look for when scrutinizing a Turbo II swap to buy. Is there common things that I could/should look for? The only thing that I could thing of was looking at how the wiring was done. If I can't tell it was swapped, is that good enough?
