na fc transmission question

I have a stock 91 gxl I bought last year. The car runs good and I haven't really had any problems. Two months ago the front u joint began to show some wear so I ordered a replacement. I thought I had solved the problem. Yesterday I go out cruising with my buddies and decided that was a prefect time to show off. As I take off I get in it and start roasting the tires. Well the u joint couldn't take my insane factory power and sheared off. Throwing my drive shaft, as it was thrashing around it hit the transmission and broke the shift linkage. I'm having a hard time finding a new transmission, I found a s4 trans but its leaking a looks in pretty bad shape. Could I just remove the tail shaft and bolt it to the trans that's in the car? Would that replace the broken linkages? Any advice is appreciated. I apologize in advance if anything in my write up is wrong I'm new to posting in fourms.

you can pick up an NA transmission fairly cheap, no more than 100 for a low mileage one. there much easier to come across than the t2 versions
