Unhappy N/A s5 starting problems

hello everyone, i recently picked up my first rx7 which is a 90 N/A S5 a few weeks ago and since ive gotten it ive had a few starting problems in the morning with it.
when i first got it i was having battery issues with the terminals and the battery itself.
but i still notice when i start it from a cold start it cranks up but it takes a while for it to start and when it does start it idles at somewhere around 2-3000 rpms and then shuts off.
i repeat the process until it stays on, when i bought the car i was told that the starter was bad because also when i try to start it, it just clicks until it cranks over and starts.
one more thing during the whole start up and shut off phase, to prevent it from turning off i hold the rpms approx 2500 for a few seconds so it doesnt turn off.
any help, info, tips would be appreciated. i am totally new to the whole rotary lifestyle, i love the car and the motor and i would really really loove to know whats wrong. this is my only car and i need it for school and other life events.
thank you all very much
-nick

The idling at 2-3k is normal for stock cars that are equipped with the idle air adjust system (I think it is called the thermowax, whatever I don't have it) rotaries often flood if you just start them up and then immediately shut them down, so you should familiarize yourself with the de-flooding procedure:

I would also recommend doing a compression test (something you should have done before you bought the car to make sure the engine is not junk):

You have bought an enthusiasts car. I hope for your sake you bleed oil and sweat gasoline.
