Welcome aboard. It doesn't sound like you overpaid, but probably got a great deal.
A great resource for carb info is www.sterlingmetalworks.com That will answer a lot of your questions and help with the rebuild process.

a buddy of mine told me that this engine mixes oil and gasoline. he also said that my oil sending module or somthing was out. does the rotary really run on gas/oil mixture?
Thanx for the links, they helped alot.

There is a metering oil pump mounted to the passenger side of the front cover that meters a small amount of oil based on throttle position. Two lines connect it to nozzles in the carb.
Your "buddy" would only be able to tell if it is non-functional by performing a flow test. Instructions are in the Haynes/FSM. These pumps almost never fail unless something physical happens to them (ie. cracks, hit with a hammer, etc.).

so i may be running low compression, but not 100% sure yet. i dont have hardly any vacuum pressure so my throttle opener doesnt work. and because of that it wont idle. also, my OMP is compleatly out. still having to mix oil and gas and pour it down the carb to get it to start. once it gets started, it runs strong. it just wont idle.
Speacial thanks to Dzire for driving all the way to jasper to help.

Any chance it was flooded when the test was conducted? That will show low readings, even on a good engine.
A good next step might be to pull the exhaust manifold off and visually inspect the apex seals...

well i kinda got fed up with the car and sold it for 600 dollars. while i had it, i got it running, removed the rats nest, and drove the hell out of it. got it slide wayz a couple of times, and had fun with it. but, it still needed a new engine. it was running 20lbs of compression on the front rotor and 60 on the back. it was not flooded at the time of the test. i was premixing an ounce to a gallon in the tank. and mixing gas and 20w-50 motor oil to pour down the carb to get it running. it also had a bad OMP. Thanks to Dzire, i was able to buy a second gen Convertible from him for $300. it runs, just needs a fuel pump, radiator, and alternator. after that ill be rollin in another Rex-7.
