Is my FD running rich?
Just had an emission test that failed catastrophicly.
0.86 in lambda at 2700 rpm, no load conditions. And the CO levels that come with that.
I've learned that this is due to that the JDM air pump shuts off at 2500 rpm, so some hot wiring and I probably pass the emission test.
But to my question, 0.86 lambda @ 2700 rpm, no load, no air pump. Is the FD supposed to run that rich.
My car is stock engine wise.
/thanks for answers

In general terms, AFR = lambda * 14.7, so 0.86 lambda = 12.6 AFR. That's not that rich considering no air pump, but a catalytic converter will work much better with an 02 supply. I can't comment specifically on the emissions functions of the FD, but an FC delivers air to the cats all the way up to 3500 RPM.

I also understood that the FD airpump was active until at least 3,000 RPM.
A couple of suggestions:
- Change the oil with some good 5W 30W oil
- Install fresh spark plugs and spark plug wires
- Clean the air filter or replace
It could also be that the catalytic converter is no longer performing up to spec. That part can be expensive.
The car should be up to temps in order for the cat to do its job and pass the emissions tests.

Oil and filters have been replaced not to long ago and the spark plugs looks fine.
The car did fine on idle so the catalyst should be working. And oh, the car was warmed up.
It's a JDM car, therefore the 2500rpm limit on the air pump.
I think the UDM is on up to 3200rpm and light load condition.
