Is my car rare?
Ok i have a 1979 rx7 with little rust and 46,000 miles. the interior is like new, all leather still shiny and seriously looks like it is brand new exept for a tear in the driver seat.
now the part that makes me think it might be very rare is the pole to hold the hood up is on the passenger side, the radio ***** are also reversed. the coin slots do not fit american coins. the spedo goes to 130, all of these things i have never seen on newer cars, i know it was made in 78' as a 79' model but thats it, its got faded paint because it sat for a long time in AZ, but runs like new. Anyone know what its worth? any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It sure is!! I had a 80 RX7 with leather (2+2) and 67K and I sold it for $5800.00 in 1day!!! and it was in just "good" condition. You might fetch out there between $5500.00 to $6500.00 from good buyer

No not rare at all...as a matter of fact you will be lucky to get $100 for it so I'll be nice and give you $150. Deal?
Sounds like a great find! The car is worth what the car is worth to the right buyer! To someone that may be $1000 to someone else that may be $7000. You never know! Post some pictures up, you do describe a great car though!

I think that asking if a car is rare, it depends on what country the car is in. One can also think about a car's rarity in the terms of the whole planet earth.
For example, if someone asks me if my car is rare, I would say it is very rare, because here in Portugal there are very little RX-7's. But if I lived in Japan, maybe it wouldn't be that rare.
Not sure if I was clear enough.

I agree on that all depends on where the car is (market) and who's buying it. For what I have seen and my experience with RX7's I would say $3800 -$4500 is average around here in VA.
Unfortunately I could not see well on Interiors and Engine bay.... but it's a good find nevertheless.
PS. I up the bidding from $150 to $200!!!

Don't think that that's what the topic starter wants to know. He has a very early first gen with some things on it that isn't seen om later models.
But i agree what others say that it's worth is depending om what somebody is willing to pay for it. A Rx-7 isn't thát rare that prices go sky high. Although iv'e seen some ebay cars come by lately that suggest otherwise.....

Maybe a stupid suggestion but can't it be that a previous owner has tinkered with the car and you have a LHD car with a RHD dash from Japan or england put in to it?

I dont think so, everything in it looks like new, the only changes on it are it has a new exhaust, intake and the guy i got it from had douche underglow lights on it but i took them off. also the three gauges in the middle, but im sure that was obvious. the guy was not very bright and had no idea what it is and sold it for 1500 because he thought one rotors apex seals were blown but it was just a timing issue. and if the dash was from japan wouldnt it be in KMH? cause i dont know. but i can tell the mileage is legit from the pedals not being worn.
This is my first car so it means alot to me but i dont want to mess it up, if its worth more than 5,000 id be willing to sell it and buy a FC i just need to know if its some kind of rare version of a rare car.

93chas7 make a offer, i am seriously considering selling it, i honestly think im too young and inexperienced to own this car, im only 19 ha. i want a FC Turbo II really bad and dont want to break this car. it already has had the muffler and thermal thing taken off but i still have all the origonal parts, including a spare tire with matching rim and size to the rest of the car that it came with, if not though id really like to know what its worth, it has faded paint on the top from sitting and two small dents that are fixable and the title confirms the mileage.

In my experience I would advice listing on eBay for $4500.00 and most likely within 2 weeks you will sell. I have seen worst rx7's selling for that much and still sell... I myself sold a GSL-SE with rear body damage and 178k for $3600 and sold it within 2 weeks, an 86 GS with 327K!!! on original engine for $3000 and a 80 Savanna RX-7 (automatic) with 66k for almost $6000 and sold in 1 day
The key is to put it out there, let people know about the car...

Rarity?
Much as I enjoy my RX7, I seldom see one on the street which looks like mine. Yet, I know that a flame-red '90GTU is not that rare for the USA since I see them for sale. It's overseas that they are a whole occasion when I spot one. The challenge in Europe is the lack of service network and general experience with them in the field. I remember a white Turbo in Germany once, but wonder how it is doing now? Innovative use of struts, new at the time, give them a sleek look that overseas people might think is something brand new!

If the car has RHD components from Japan & they kept the original radio (hence the dials in their locations), then the FM Radio stations should be from 76.0 to 90.0. The Japanese use different frequencies than us Americans. If the stereo has American frequencies, then I'm stumped!
Either way, the overall condition & mileage of this car is !!
