loose rear end..

ok. i litterally just bought a 1987 gxl. its got 136k miles. runs great.. but i have some issues i want to figure out.. ok

1st.. my brake light is on.. even when the ebrake is all the way down.. and im wondering how i can adjust it. i cant drive at night because the tail lights arent illuminated. until i press on the brake... so how do i adjust it??

2. i drove the car home from reno. only paid 750 for it. its a killer deal.. but the roads on the way back arent the best.. and when i hit parts of the crappy road. it seemed like the rear end was going to go sideways.. or is airborn halve the time.. what could be the possible problems with the rear..

and no i dont have a hanes manual just yet.. im getting one today. but i wanted help from some experienced FC owners.

one more... is it tough to install a smog pump?? or could the smog tech slip on it.. if he/she is old and doesnt know rotorys??

1. Check your brake fluid level, that will cause the light to go on thinking your Ebrake is up.

2. You are complaining about getting sideways? Check air pressure, tire condition, struts, etc...

3. The air pump is pretty easy to just slap on. If it is not connected even if a smog technician misses it on the visual inspection you still have to worry about the emissions and it more than likely will not pass without a smog pump. I am a smog tech myself and can tell you this from experience.

well i know emissions where i live are a little more lax. well i guess i will find out when i go and attempt to get it smogged.. and yeah. my town is full of crappy roads. and i live in the mountains. so it can get scary goin on the roads with like 50 foot dropoffs and no guard rail.. so when it trys to pitch sideways when i dont want it to. im going to complain about it..

as for the break fluid lvl.. i will check that tomarrow..

loose rearends are most likely the rear toe steer bushings are worn out go to the back of the car and look down on the tire from above the wheel check both sides does one rear wheel toe out or is it different from the other, if so order a 2 rear steer eliminators from racing beat or mazdatrix, also check the sway bar bushings and links as well as the rear shocks an alighnment shop would be a serious consideration for a repair quote, then fix as nessary, also have the shop check for a bent rearswing axel(curb damage ) .................................................. ................enjoy ps check rear calipers for movment toothey can and do stick
