TX Loose and clunking rear end

I feel uncomfortable when acceleraring hard, like rear end torque steering due to some problem with alignment or suspension linkage; also a distinct "clunking when letting up on gas etc. This is a 93 Touring edition RX7 w/ about 100,000 miles. (odometer stopped working at about 97,000). Car has mild mods and some bulletproofing of questionable Mazda parts (like radiator and hoses).

I'd look at differential bushings (fluid filled), motor mounts (especially left/driver's side) and the 5 rear suspension pillow ball bushings. They're all probably due if they've never been changed.
The Factory Service Manual is your friend. Downloadable versions are available in the 3rd Gen. FAQ sticky...if you haven't already.

My 85 had the same "Clunk" when letting up on the gas. It was the Drive shaft. Replaced it and no more clunking.
