Looking for Rotary wisdom!
Ok, I just bought a 86 N/A Rx7 ( might be a sport, cant tell yet) i have done some searching and found out that it was normal when i started it the first time or two and the idle jumped to 3k RPM's, now that i have driven it a few more times it dosnt jump to 3k anymore, kinda hangs out at around 1200-1500 range then drops down to a normal idle. i live in the midwest and its starting to get a little cold in the early mornings, so shouldnt the idle jump to 3k at the first time i start it for the day?( after sitting 6+ hours). and wisdom would be great just tring to learn the in's and outs of the car

Yes, it should cold start at 3k RPM for ~17 seconds per the FSM/training manual. It's been awhile since I had that system enabled, but having the car in or out of gear at startup can determine if the engine revs up to 3K or not. After it revs up, the thermowax cam will place the idle around 1.5k when cold.

ok so somthing might be wrong?
Ok, its not going to hurt my car if it dosnt do this cold start thing? that is the major concern here, just dont want another dumb owner to cause a great car to be junked but if it dosnt matter one way or another then its not broken and the quest for more power can go back underway thanks

The cold startup is for emissions only, to lightoff the first cat and control cold start emissions. No damage will come from having it not work.
But if you want to fix it, the reason it is not working is because of a bad ASV or thermo switch (bottom right left of the rad).

There is no "building" of oil pressure. Oil pressure comes up as soon as the engine starts, almost instantly. If your car needs to run to build oil pressure, then there is something seriously wrong like a blown out front cover o-ring.
