BC the long awaited round 2 of rx7 ownership

This is my second rx7-- 1987 RX& GXL NA. I was desperately looking to buy a new car as my throwout bearing on my mx3 blew apart and shredded my tranny early last week... I commute to work and need transportation.

so as rx enthusiasts go, it was the first place i looked. alas, nothing in my price range, all 3rd gens no 2nd. and so the search for a practical commuter went on. and then late last night at 11:55pm, i hit refresh one last time on the CL browser and POW, the car i now own appears. I called right away and arranged an early time to test drive and view.

being the 2nd rx i would have owned, i knew what to look for from the constant care and attention, repair and upgrading i did with my previous rx... and this car was only 1000$. that should have been a good sign to step away. although i had convinced my roomie to drive the 1.5 hours to view and had spent all night tossing and turning over the idea i would again own an rx.

the car body was what you would expect from a well driven 87... a few dings and dents, lower panel replaced, sloooooowww sunroof etc etc. but all the gages worked, the car hummed nicely (although 1 muffler was rusted out so it was loud to say the least.) i drove it, the suspension was tight, the brakes strong, and the engine had pull. fresh lube change all round, and there was a stack of maintenance records from the mazda dealership. I bought it then and there and drove it staight to work, barely making it.

this is where the gut feeling of oops came upon me. the car handles like you would expect... on rails, although at the higher speeds the steering wheel started to shake, there is intermittant 'hiccups' in the power to the wheels, nothing major or probably even noticeable to anyone but a fresh driver keenly tuned to the cars nuances... the brakes probably the rear brakes are 'singing', slightly only but i think the calipers arent releasing fully, and the bushings in the shifter just gave out, shifts fine still, although the wobbly and incresingly hot shift stick is disheartening. and then, as i drove home, the muffler completely blew out, one muffler rusted but complete, the other only half there. and... icing you see... the clutch has a very faint whine to it... extremely quiet but i remember that sound from my previous rx...

you would think that i would want to sell this car asap and buy a more reliable or atleast complete and road safe car, although as it goes, i sit here trying to think how i can quickly and cheaply remedy these problems til the next paycheck comes around... blinded by pure love for the rotary. ill admit it.
