Just bought an 84 GLS-SE
So I found a very nicely taken care of 84 with close 200k miles. I pick up next week and need to address the issues that the owner was up front about. First off he said that there is an idle and accelerate issue. THat the car runs just fine but you have to speed up slowly. If the gas is mashed in, it would suck the power right out. Now I am not a mechanic and have been very very timid when it comes to working on cars. I ordered a manual and I wanted this vehicle to be the first one that I get my hands dirty on. It also needs an A/C recharge, but I figure that I will have to take it somewhere for that. What else should I do to this vehicle when I first get it? It has not been driven very much at all in the past 6 years. Just sat in the garage according to the man in his 60's that is the original owner. After an oil change (what kind should I use?) and probably some new spark plugs I need to add other things......... what should I look for and what should I get?

congrats i love the gslse...wish i never sold mine...anyways if i was you i would take it to a rotary specialist that can give you a diagnostic on the issue...from there i would then... fix it myself if its not to complicated and the time is available. 200k is a record lol never heard of it....hey if you have the money rebuilt the engine...but it sounds it can be a fuel injection problem, fuel pump, solenoids, fuel pressure regulator, maybe electrical ect...see what am getting at just get a diagnostic it would be much quicker... Also am sure rotaryrocket might solve the problem by telling you what to check, he help me lol...we have alot of experienced guys on the forum that will help you out....well good luck and have fun!!!!!

From what I have been reading, I am hoping that running some injector cleaner and maybe a fuel filter swap will do the trick. I am eager to be able to grow some ***** about this car because I have never wanted to work on my own car from fear of messsing something up and then not haveing a car. Since I have another car i wont ahve to worry about getting in too deep and not being able to get it back together right away. Talked to the owner again last night and since it has just sat in his garage for several years an oil change, spark plugs and oither simple things are a must. I will just be estatic if cleaning the injectors will help.
