installing rb exhaust
installing rb exhaust
Going to be installing the complete road race system on my 88 vert. Curious what you guys do with the split air pipe keeping or ditching the air pump.

on an 88 you need that pipe to activate the 5/6 ports..But you do not need the air pump.
That would be on an s5.The air pump is required for the ports on an s5.

Aux ports should still work with my setup, they will be actuated off of exhaust pulses instead of backpressure. Is there anything else the air pump will mess with if its removed?

you would remove the ACV( that what it is called?).
See: block off plates...emissions delete, rat's nest removal.
It's on the side of the lower manifold and fed by the air pump,so If you remove that it is basically useless.
.BUT,Research Fully before you take ANYTHING Off the engine. There are Too many threads on"my car won't start AFTER..." Blah, blah, blah threads..
Just because someone jumped off a bridge..do you have to also..?
If know fully the Implications before you start yanking Stuff off,It makes things easier if you "miss a step".
Makes the landing a little easier too!

Ok did a little searching. Found the block off plate. Ditching the air pump would require a dual alternator pulley to keep the water pump from slipping correct. And I can still keep the air pump with the acv removed?

you need the pipe to supply air to the Ports.
now you can keep the pump and use a setup to allow the pump to supply air to the post but that is a little more involved.
But Why?..it's 6 pounds of garbage on an s4.

My ports will be activated on exhausted pulses from the header. I ask because I need the air pump at least installed for emmissions. Doesn't have to work, just be there.
This presilencer has the "split air" tube in it.

Your is a universal so obviously no place to put the split air pipe.
You're better off using a tube right off your header as shown. That's how I'm doing it on mine.

Just an earlier version of the header/ home modded version. I don't know for sure.

Really nice information in this thread.
I honestly would of kept the exhaust manifold instead of running a header for my daily driver in the summer. Not a huge difference in performance at my level, it would of simplified quite a bit.
