NJ Ignition timing question

recently my friend and i were going over my car. he has experience with fcs and fds. we checked my timing with a timing gun.. aparently the timing is set too far advanced and he said whats why it idles slightly rough. we didnt set the timing yet because it snowed like crazy here and i went and picked up a repair manual so i have all the specs. plus i ordered the sweet pineapple racing cover lol. so i was wondering if you guys set your timing to what the book says or do you guys set to anything specific to make the car run better etc? i know it might sound stupid im just trying to do the right thing...88 turbo 2. upgraded turbo, 255 fuel pump, stock injectors, rebuilt motor, streetported... if it make a diffrence....

Set the CAS to stock unless you like rebuilding your engine.

Timing should be set to factory specs.

Your idle is poor because of the 255 fuel pump. It is raising fuel pressure as the factory FPR cannot deal with that much flow.
