Idling temperature problems

hello, I started up my FC today and I noticed that the temperature gauge was idling in the middle, usually this is fine for other vehicles but not on rotary engines as I read on this forum. So my question is, for added reassurance, is it ok for the temperature to be in the middle? Also when I revved it to 8k the temperature increased over the half way mark as well.

What year FC? The middle position of the temp gauge of an S5 is normal operating temperature. S4s run at 1/4.

Also see this info on troubleshooting cooling problems:

The year of the FC is a '91 & I got confused with the s4 operating temp, so my apologies. But I do have a coolant leak and I was just able to find it today, it seems that it's leaking from a bolt of some sort. I'm not mechanically wise yet but if you can help me out a bit. I have a feeling that i have a leaky gasket, do these pictures support my theory? seems to be between the block & the water pump

That leaking coolant could be coming from the water pump gasket but it probably is from the water pump weep hole. When the pump starts to go bad it can leak from this small hole in the water pump . If that the case you will need to replace it. Take the fan belt off and see if the bearing in the water pump has play in it or feels rough.

Yep, that coolant leak will do it. The system won't be able to pressurize and therefore won't work to full capacity.

thanks I figured as much when I woke up with a puddle of coolant on my driveway.

@rwatson
when I was sticking my hand up there, i felt something squishy and coolant dripped out more, so i assume it either needs a replacement gasket or just resealed w silicone again.I will follow up up on the water pump weephole and if that's the case I'll replace it as well. Thank you for the help.
