Interesting read. If you were just beating on the car then a bit of cool down makes sense but most people drive a bit after allowing cool down so this seems repetitive to let the car idle. IMO.

Better safe than sorry. Just let it cool down for a bit. If I'm on my way home, my neighborhood is low traffic so I can throw it in neutral at a certain point and let it coast to my house which takes roughly a minute. From there I check my phone briefly which puts me at another 30 seconds then I shut my car off. IMO coasting in neutral(because airflow) would be better than standing in neutral but obviously not everyone has the space to do so.
