Idea of mine

Has anyone on here thought about a hydrogen boosted rx7? like adding another injector of just hydrogen or something similar to this?

You could buy H2 from airgas.

Seriously, it is like nitrous to where you don't just throw in more oxidizer (or fuel in this case) without something to balance the mixture. The air/fuel mix is much different for H2 compared to gasoline. In addition, H2 will combust over a very wide range of fuel/air ratios, where gasoline needs to be within a pretty tight range.

I think it would need to be used in large amounts...possibly? I'm no chemist

I don't know about hydrogen injection as an aid with gasoline, but I remember seeing somewhere that someone built a car with engine completely using hydrogen. Keep us posted

If you can carry a tank of hydrogen, then mixing a good amount of hydrogen into the A/F charge has been shown in lab studies to improve emissions and fuel economy. However I'm talking between 30% and 50% hydrogen by volume, which is a lot of gas. At that point your hydrogen bills will be simply much higher than the money you would have saved.

Building your own hydrogen powered RX-7 is easy. In many ways similar to LPG. Hell you can run a car on hydrogen by sticking a hose of the stuff into the carb and cutting out the fuel pump.

The real problem is that for a daily fuel, you'll pay WAY more for hydrogen with it's low energy density than you would for gasoline. Standard welding cylinders full of hydrogen are only about enough gas for 50 miles or so. You can't store enough hydrogen for longer distances until you get into high pressure cryogenic tanks.

And don't even consider thinking about HHO. Total scam.

It was built by a little outfit called Mazda back in 2006. http://www.hydrogencarsnow.com/mazda...e-hydrogen.htm They aren't exactly flying off the shelves for the reasons stated above.

Aaron this is for racing. LP wouldnt be as useful on co2 emissions as hydrogen/gas mix

Not really sure how any of this would be a benefit for racing. The large amounts of hydrogen required to get a measurable difference isn't going to last long as high throttles, combined with the weight of the hydrogen tanks needed to supply it.

By the way, anyone saying "don't blow yourself up" needs to do some basic reading on hydrogen. It only explodes in a very narrow A/F ratio, and it is so light and such a small light molecule (the smallest) that it dissipates quickly.

Jesse james set some kind of land speed record in a hydrogen powered stream liner. V8 cadillac engine i think?

Anyways, myself and a few friends ran hydrogen on our cars for fun/gas milage. This was over 10 years ago. My friends 1st gen was a 12a bridgeport that gained 4 mpg. We could also get the BP 12a to idle solely on hydrogen.

This was done VERY cheaply and easy using these things. A jar, stainless steel plates, water, and power from the alternator. You can do this much better now since there is tons of info out there on it. Many people have done this now.

As for adding power, good luck. You will need lots of forced air to make any extra power with Hydrogen. And at that point, your much better off going with pure Meth.
