Hydrogen-powered FC?

I've been reading up on the RX-8, and apparently the Renesis can run on hydrogen as well as standard petrol. Is it possible to modify a FC in such a way that it can run on just hydrogen? What are the possible repercussions?

Yes, it would not be any more work to make the FC run on Hydrogen than it was for Mazda to make the RX-8 run on Hydrogen.

Possible repercussion is it will make you poor.

The RX-8 held 2.4kg (5.3lbs) of Hydrogen and had a range of 100km (62miles).

Hydrogen is still around $10kg, so it is going to be pretty expensive from a fuel standpoint.

Any rotary could be converted to run on Hydrogen since there are no hot-spots inherent in the intake design (like a hot intake valve)
Gaseous injection (like a propane fork lift) wouldn't even get the same economy as the RX-8 liquid phase injection, but sure would be cheaper.

If you are interested in Hydrogen an alternative to Hydrogen fueled is Hydrogen enhanced gasoline fueled car.

I see, thanks for the info. I was looking into whether I should invest in making my future car hydrogen-powered to avoid any fossil fuel issues in the future. Outside of us car enthusiasts nobody appreciates performance vehicles, some even wanting their boring electric, self-driving silver coffins to push actual cars off the road for good. Making the car that I intend to permanently live with run on hydrogen would be a major step to contribute to the survival of a specimen of the RX-7 in the future.

The rotary is honestly great for running any fuel.

I wonder how it would run on diesel.....

Rotaries ability to run on diesel/aviation fuel is one of the reasons the military has kept using them (they had a one fuel line policy for a while) and was developed from the outset of the rotary.

Because of the chosen geometry our Mazda rotaries pretty much have to run as spark ignition diesels though.
