How worthwhile are gauages

Was speaking to someone about putting gauges in my fd3s. Have purchased a boost, oil pressure + water temp. I have a 2001 fd so I don't have a stock oil pressure gauge and have a boost gauge instead.
He was suggesting not to even bother if I'm planning to get a power fc considering it has most of the information on the commander.
Any recommendations?

Those 3 are pretty well what people install so I myself say they are the minimum essentials if you want to know what your car is doing.
..BUT there is installing gauges and then there is installing TOO MANY gauges.
It is nice to monitor your car but IF you are driving around all the time looking at your gauges it takes the FUN out of driving the car.
With a nicely tuned Rotary you should be able to "black them out" and enjoy the road..Only use them when you are doing something out of the ordinary.
If you have to glance at your gauges every 10 seconds then your car is Running YOU..and you are not driving the car anymore..you are Monitoring it.

I'm not sure why you'd want TWO boost gauges. Just use the stock one. After that, it boils down to personal taste...and maybe your age. I'm old and accustomed to the analogue gauges so despite having the ability to monitor coolant temp and boost on the commander, I have those two gauges installed. That also allows me to more easily monitor other things, like IAT, injector duty etc. on the commander. If you want a recommendation, I'd say get the PFC and decide for yourself which way to go. I'm with Styx, too many gauges start to look silly. Whatever you decide on the gauges make sure to get the newer OLED commander as it's SO much easier to read.

The stock series 8 boost gauge is garbage, and is only really useful for indicating vague levels of positive boost.

Currently I use my PFC commander which displays vacuum in mmhg and positive pressure in kg/cm2.

I purchased a carbon R-magic quad 60mm gauge pod and will be installing a boost gauge that reads directly in PSI (to save me converting the PFC reading when I'm interested) with a peak and warning operation. This will free up a slot on my commander screen for something else. (I only run with 4 readings on the commander otherwise it ends up taking more than a quick glance to read it...).

If you are happy with the boost output on the PFC, I'd run a Air/Fuel ratio gauge instead.

Sorry but IMO the stock series 8 gauge is fine then. It would give relative readings to what your foot is doing which is all you need the majority of the time. If you need better resolution wth peak values then you have the commander. The OP is in Aus, and is probably used to metric but doing conversion isn't hard. Adding a THIRD gauge for boost readings makes no sense. Especially a huge 60mm version.

And isn't a afr gauge kind of useless without a wideband? It could change faster than you can move your foot.

If you purchased them already and they are quality gauges with a integrated warning system than I would say go for it, commander is great at outputting but sometimes there is just too much going on one screen.

Basing the install of a aftermarket boost gauge on the idea that 1. i might try pump 10-12psi into the twins just before i go single for the sake of it and the stock only reads up to 10psi. 2. The fact that if I'm going single in the future ill most likely need a boost gauge that can read anywhere up to 25 psi.

Otherwise if i was staying 100% stock i would be happy with the stock boost gauge. Not seeing any issues with it currently.
