How to use the convertible top and other FC issues

Just picked up a 1990 convertible and have some problems/questions i need solving.

First off i noticed the top part of the roof is hard and that there are some latches in the rear does that part come off? and after unlatching the front latches i can just go ahead and fold the roof down? just making sure of all this so i dont tear or break anything.

Second when the car was still on the colder side whenever i pushed the throttle the check engine light would flash on and go off soon as i came off the throttle any insight to this problem?

Lastly after the car warmed up and the CEL problem went away i pushed the car some to see what it would do. Any time i was over 5500 or 6k rpm not sure which just high rpm and i shifted whenever the clutch was depressed and i let of the gas i got a pop noise from the right side of the engine...almost like a loud exhaust pop inside the manifold or like a flapper door slamming shut. Any ideas on this as well?

thanks for all the help

for the question on the convertible top yes the middle sectoin does come off. What you do is unlatch the top and then there will be an orange lever behind that latch pull that and then pull the top up this should release the seal but then you have to go to the other side and push the button that realeases the top enabling it to fold after that pull the second lever behiind the latch and pull up. Alot easier when you have to people. Its way to complicated for a targa top but when you finally have it off its a blast. Had to play with the damn thing for 30 minutes before I figured it out. As for the engine problems that doesnt sound good at all.

Heres steps for putting the top down.
1) Ebrake must be on or the top wont go down.
2) Undo both the latches by simply pulling down on them
3) On the right hand side of your cluster I think the middle **** turn and hold it and the top should start going back.
3.5) Put the latches back up and remember to undo them before putting the top all the way back up
4) My top anyways stops about in the middle and i have to release the **** and hold it again and it will go all the way down.
5) the Targa section will stay up, on the passengers side there is a button you need to push up and in on and you will be able to fold the Targa section down.
6) Congratulations you win.

thanks for the help with the top gonna give it a try this weekend. Figrued out the pop noise is just a loud exhaust pop in the manifold i tried free revving it tonight and it did it right at the top of the rpms

The check engine light i will have to hopefully pull this weekend assuming its stored in the ECU. It only happens under heavier load and it flickers at 4-4.5k and then goes out at 5k i am wondering if it has anything to do with the air pump or the 5th and 6th ports

Cool convertible top question

The top on my 91 RX-7 would not go up last night. So, I checked to manual and did it manually. No how do I return is back to power mode? The top just beeps now like it still down. Can someone shead some like on the subject.

Thank you!

Is your e-brake on? If not, it will just beep when you try to put the top up/down.
