ON How To reinstall clutch release cylinder

Okay so my car is a 1992 Efini RX7. I removed the clutch release cylinder thinking I would replace the tranny but in the car but I then changed my mind. So now weeks later I am trying to reinstall it but I cant get it back in. Its like the clutch fork needs to be pressed in for the release cylinder to go back in.

I also just put a small rip in the boot on it so I don't know if that's a part I can get from Mazda or not I will ask tomorrow when I go to pick up some other parts I ordered.

So is there any special method to reinstalling this? It has a removal note in the service manual but nothing about installation.

Are you referring to the slave cylinder which bolts to the transmission? If so, you can purchase a rebuild kit which will come with a new piston, spring, seal, etc... The rebuild kit is pretty cheap so there's no reason not to get one while you are working in the area.

As far as re- installation, the clutch fork should be right there in the opening. If everything is right, you should have to exert some force on the slave cylinder to bolt it down. If not, either you don't have the piston on the dimple on the fork or the throw-out bearing is not locked into the pressure plate properly.

Okay I think I found the rebuild kit you are talking about, its like $26 from Mazdatrix. Also on Mazdatrix a whole new slave cylinder is only $54. I was at a local Mazda dealer yesterday they want $105 for it. Rip off.

Anyways, about the install, I guess I am just too weak to install because you definitely to need a lot of force to bolt it down. I am assuming you are pushing in the clutch fork by hand when you are installing it? That's what it feels like anyways. Its just hard getting the right kind of strength on it when you are laying on your back under the car lol

Thanks a lot for your help though, I think I am going to order that rebuild kit, or for an extra $25 might go for the new one I'm not sure.

put the rod into the dimple in the clutch fork and push. the cylinder should go back in. if not, loosen the bleeder screw. the split in the boot is no big deal. i would just buy a replacement cylinder unless ur able to hone out the cylinder when rebuilding it. otherwise rebuilding doesn't seem to last as long.

Yeah okay I figured it out today. The guy I am working with was absolutely sure that when he took it out the round little metal piece that the spring attaches to was on the outside of the cylinder, in the boot. Well its not. He was wrong. And when I finally took a look at how he had put it back together I realized what was wrong. So I got it back in properly now but I may end up buying the replacement cylinder in the future.
