holley carburettor rebuild??

Hi,
i have a nice parts car with a japanese 13b 4port and racing beat holley carburetor.
The previous owner of the car told me it would be a good idea to order a racing beat rebuild kit for the holley because its got a tiny leak in the manifold.
Are the racing beat holleys going to need a racing beat rebuild/gasket kit from racing beat or are there any alternative ways to go?
I've only ever pulled apart an old nikki carb on my mazda hb cosmo and i hope this won't be much more of a challenge.
Ill try to attach a picture to show y'all what I'm working with here.
Oh wait sorry I'm on my cell phone, i dont think i can.
Peace

the rebuild kit doesn't necessarily have to come from RB. and no amount of carb rebuilding will fix a leaky intake, unless the PO is referring to a leak where the carb meets the intake.

Hi this is the first reply I've made to some one so i hope this works...
I would say it's not for sale unless i get the right pricefor it and the sale is convenient for both of us. So i guess if you make me an offer I'll take a day to think about it for you.

Okay cool you helped me lots there.
I called the guy i gpt the car from and he told me the carb was leaking from the 'float bowl reservoir vent' and the rebuild kits should come with the appropriate seal to fix the leak. The previous owner believes the seak was leaking because of additional pressure applied from the high flow after market fuel pump that he fitted to the car.

Holleys (both 4150 and 4160 styles) are really easy to rebuild. I've rebuilt the Holley 4bbl on my 1970's Chrysler a heap of times, and I've stayed up late reading the Holley tune up books handed down to me from my Dad. Eventually I got better than him at tuning them..!

So basically the float bowl comes off with 4x bolts that are holding it on (this goes for either end of the carb) once those 4 bolts are off, the bowl pulls off, and the metering block also comes off too. The float bowl vent is sealed by the large rectangular gasket that seals the float bowl to the metering block. You need to get a 'new float bowl gasket' from Holley, and you should be fine.

Depends on whether you have a 4150 or 4160 model carb, but the rear bowl (the secondary bowl) may have a metering block behind it (good, because the rear jets are replaceable) or a metering plate (not so good for hi perf. applications as the plate has fixed jet holes- ie rear jets cant be changed when tuning)

When removing/installing the float bowls, make sure to get the accelerator pump plunger arm (located underneath the float bowl on one side, attached with 4 screws) to line up with the accelerator pump linkage arm (has a spring around a bolt on it) when reinstalling the float bowl.

I'd suggest buying a "Holley Trick Kit" online. This comes with every gasket you will ever need, period. Holleys are fantastic things, and one of my favorite past times

Thanks alot for the info.
Sorry for the late reply but i only just found out how to check the replies on the subscriptions thing...

I will go out and buy a holley tune up book when i can and get my head around how to do it all.
I noticed the intake manifold-to the engine gasket wasn't even the right size so i have a few things i need to buy and i'll make a list and hopefully i wont encounter any problems.

Cheers heaps.

For that Holley, get the Overhaul kit from Barry Grant, (Dahlonega Ga.) they replaced a lot of the weird pieces with good usable things... Non Stick Metering Block Gaskets, Nylon Float Bowl Gaskets.
Custom Machined Needle and Seat assy's..... Amongst other goodies.

Hrmmm I just found out BG has gone under.. Mind you I do know you should still be able to get some of the BG Kits through Jegs. (Not Summit) Holley now owns Demon Carbs (BG Designed/Built before Bankruptcy) I am thinking the BG Kits will be around for some time to come

One strong suggestion with that Holley get Center hung Float Bowls, and then get a set of road racing floats ( Angle cut at both ends) 1 problem I had when I raced my 83 on a road course, the jets uncovered on hard cornering (Carb sits sideways on a rotary).. the aforementioned setup allows more fuel in the bowls, effectively doing away with uncovering the jets..

thanks a lot, that's very helpful info.

it's not the best photo but i figured i may aswell show you a photo of the engine and carb.

I am thinking of selling it, for $1100 you can get them new from racing beat, complete with racing beat's intake manifold ect.. so i'm trying to get $700 for this setup, do you think that's a good price as far as you can tell?

@jozeyrx7 Its what ever the market will bare... I know I wouldn't pay that for it as I would have to spend quite a large number of hours modding it to the way Id like it..As a point of reference, there are a couple of RB manifolds on here for 100.00, Can get a Holley 600-650 used for 75.00-150, I would go that way. No disrespect meant or implied :-)
