everytime i start the car my windshield wipers go on. i dotn get why its doing this.
i have an 1988 Rx7 SE non turbo.

 

Really, really dumb question, but are you absolutely sure that the switch is turned off? And not set to intermittant?

 

im sure. i checked. my friend checked. dad checked. i really dont get why its doing that

 

does it turn off and did you just purchase it, if you just bought it whoever had it could have wires crossed

 

thing is it doesnt turn off, and this problem just started recently.

 

Unplug the wiper switch and then try it again. If the wipers don't move, then the issue is with the switch. The relays in the switch wear out over time and do weird things (like sticking). It's a fairly common problem.

 

are the relays replaceable or would you have to get a whole new switch because i have some funny wiper issues too. once turned off mine never go back to there resting position

 

Wiper switches in the 2nd gens are one of the most common problems.

You replace the whole switch as it solves any future problems, and they are decently cheap.
If I remember correctly, there was a member on here that sold refurbished ones.

 

well if he sold refurbished ones then it would be possible to replace the relays right?

 

I believe so, It's just the fact that you don't want to repair the relays, and have something else in the switch go.

 

yea true... but hell if i can replace them that would save me time for finding one and waiting on shipping all that. plus its a good learnin experience.

 

Yeah, unfortunately Icemark passed away a month or so ago, so unless someone else has picked up this task, the best you can do is read the DIY he had on his web site. However, I just tried bringing up that page to no avail.

You can replace the relay but I don't think it's worth the trouble. I have tried to do two of them but the board is so poor quality that I destroyed both while desoldering. And I am by far not a virgin in soldering (been doing it for 20+ years). Since the switch is broken you have nothing to loose but time and a few dollars to buy a new relay but it might be easier to just find a good used switch.

 

It's prob a lot easier to replace it then to try to fix the relay like Aaron said. It's not an easy task and really not worth all the trouble.

 

Admittedly, the DIY repair is tricky, and apparently a lot of members have had difficulty desoldering the old and putting in the new relay. I was fortunate enough to repair the switch successfully the first time, but it must have been an act of God because getting the old one out drove me crazy. I would say to do it if you are feeling adventurous. Go ahead and spray some of that rain-x stuff - or whatever it is on the windshield either way. Makes a big difference, and you might not need to use HI quite as often.

 

rain x is the best. but it seems to only work when i drive around 40 or so. and they get kinda mad when i do that in a 25 lol
