help s5 na wont idle with maf plugged in

So heres whats up my 1989 s5 non turbo wont idle and I just replaced all my vacuum hoses and clamped them all to limit my chances of leaks. But when I turn the key with the maf on the car will turn over then hit 1000rpm then shut off immediately after. So I unplugged the maf and tried again as I started the car it rose to 3000rpm then dropped to 1000rpm for about a minute then it dropped very low like 100rpm and it stayed there, then I replugged the maf in while it was idling that low and it jumped back to 1000rpm and died immediately. So my question is why does it die with the maf plugged in and could it just have something to do with my throttle body and timing out of tune for it to run correctly?
