my car wont start and i think its flooded.i have tried every deflooding trick in the book and it still wont start unless its tow started.then i cant rev up any.and it smokes really bad,i just put in a new fuel filter along with new gas after dumping the old stuff.put in a bottle of injector cleaner and some sea foam.still nothing.i think my spark plugs might be in the wrong spots to,but when i try them the other way it wont even try to fire.i have even tried starting fluid.nothing is working but i know the engine works cause it works when tow started.please help me.

So, this engine sat for a long time? If that's the case, the injectors may be leaking. Fuel injector cleaner might help, but only a sonic cleaning will make them work like new. www.witchhunter.com is one company that can clean them for you, but you may also find some place local. Aaroncake also has an unstore FAQ here: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/unstore.htm

The correct way to install the spark plugs is with the trailing BUR9EQs on top, and the leading BUR7EQs on the bottom. Sticking colder plugs (the 9s) in the leading location will have an affect on starting, which you've already seen.

Also, how does the car run once you get it pull started? Is idle rough or does it seem to lack power? A compression test wouldn't be a bad idea, and might reveal a stuck seal or just generally low numbers.

Have you tried putting a bit of oil into each leading plug hole? It will build up compression.

You mention the car starts when pushed/towed. Does it keep running?
