Help Needed - headlight retractor motor hot

Good day

I have a 93 Rx7 FD3S and my right side head light won't go down (stuck in the up position). When I manually turn it down it goes down and when I turn on the headlights it pops up automatically but when I turn the head lights off it stays up. The left side headlights works perfect.

When the car is off the headlight motor is hot to the the touch. Anyone experienced this before? Any advice on what's the problem?

Thanks in advance.

From your description the issue lies between the Right headlight and headlight relay. Anything before that (light switches in car etc seems fine as you say the left hand light goes up and down as it should).

so let's shift focus to the right headlight mactuator. Pull the plug out, make sure there's no obvious damage/burn marks etc. The wire that is responsible for the down function of the headlight is the red/yellow wire. So this is what your focus is on.

Now the way the headlights are wired, the red/yellow wire on the LEFT headlight ( the one working properly) this wire goes directly to the headlight relay. The red/yellow wire on the RIGHT headlight is actually spliced into the LEFT headlight red/yellow wire before the relay. Sometimes this can break/come loose which is why the left light still works going down (because it goes direct to the relay) and the right light doesn't (because it's spliced into the left headlight wire and not directly connected to the relay). So trace the red/yellow wire from the right headlight plug till you find where it's spliced and see if it's come loose/broken off/or even shorted out on thenchassis etc. If this wire is present and the splice is there without any issues then it will be a fault with the right headlight motor/actuator it's self. Maybe the switch inside has corroded/stuck/burnt out because of water or bad earth etc.

so rule out he wiring first. If the wiring is perfect then just replace the motor. It cannot be anything else, the headlight sysytem is a simple circuit on these cars when you understand them.

good luck.

Thanks for the troubleshooting advise. I finally got around to check the headlight, turns out that the headlight was not fitted properly so it was becoming stuck on the bumper when doing down causing the headlight not to move. A minor adjustment to the headlight and it works fine presently.

Sorry for the late late reply and thanks again for the advise.
