HELP ME : Heat Light Staying On

Hi Guys,

I have a 1992 JDM FD RX7. It has 68,000 km on it. It had around 10 owners so i dont have proper history of this car.
Recently the "Heat Light" on the gauge panel started lighting up. Once it comes on then it keeps blinking or stays on (no constant pattern). Whenever it comes on i hear a clicking sound from under the hood. When let the car to idle and opened the hood i saw the air pump's face stopping once in a while (the pully keeps on rotating) and that is what causing the clicking noise.

The Heat Light

Please help me to sort this problem. It will be a huge help.

Thanks in advance.

Possibly bad retract relay, it's one of the relays near the hood latch

I know on the Gen 1 the overheat exhaust sensor is under the carpet on the passenger side where the exhaust path runs under the floor. Testing the sensor is quick with a meter and replacement isnt too bad either. Looks to be similar for all of them:

Your car is different than the North American S6 that we're most familiar with. On our cars that light is on the console. Our Factory Service Manual addresses that light in the emissions section (page F189). It's not very helpful but does have a test procedure for the associated sensor. It could be related to your airpump cycling

Or is it because my cat is clogged?
Or anything wrong with my air pump?

Have you downloaded a Factory Service Manual yet? What have you done to check things yourself?

Does your car have a pre-cat and main cat? If so I'd first remove the precat and replace it with a downpipe. Then check to make sure the main cat is not plugged or damaged and flowing freely.
Also check your factory service manual to see if you have any stored engine codes.

^You're correct. So IMO you should proceed with the other suggestions.
