Help car cranks but does not start

hello,

Alright i have a 87 gxl all stock except for the suspension and dyno max exhaust(was there before i bought the car).

The car cranks but does not start. I have changed the following:

Fuel pump, fuel injectors, sparkplugs, and sprak plug wires. I have also tired unflooding the car by taking EGI fuse out, spark plugs out, and putting oil in the bottom spark plug chambers.

I also tired starting it by using starter fulid, when i used it the car cranked and sounded like it was about to start as it made a sound almost like a backfire or mis fire. sounded something like this crank crank crank boom boom boom and then crank crank lol.

Can someone please guide me to what the problem is or how to figure out the problem.

Thank you very much.

Have you done any troubleshooting?

Do you have fuel?

Spark?

Compression?

CAS timed correctly?

Spark plug wires on the correct plugs?

As far as trouble shooting I don't even know where to start.

Yes there is fuel.
I don't think I'm getting spark is there a certain type of spark plugs I should use ?
What is CAS? And this is the wires are connected T1 is top left T2 top right L1 bottom left L2 bottom right is that the right way?

You can test for spark by taking a spare spark plug, connecting a plug wire to it, laying it on the engine, and cranking. It should spark in time.

The CAS is the "crank angle sensor", the sensor by with the ECU knows the position of the engine.

The Factory Service Manual can be found in the FAQ For FC thread. It contains all this information and more, and is an essential tool for any sort of service work that needs to be performed on these cars.

Additionally, the Haynes service manual for the 1986 thru 1991 RX-7 (both turbo and NA) can be found at most local auto parts stores or purchased from any good bookstore (ISBN number 1 56392 007 7). It is only about $25 and is a great quick reference for things like this. Not only does it contain most of the information in the FSM condensed into an easy to read format, but it includes full wiring diagrams as well.

These manuals will answer 99% of service related questions for the car and if you intend to do your own repair work, you will need at least one of them. Preferably both, since the FSM is a free download.

thanks alot for your input and advice i will get the books asap.

also i was reading up on your wirte up about ground connections, do you think that one of my grounds could be causing the issue?. I put a brand new battrey in my car and over night it drained out completely. I went and replaced it with another new battery and the same thing happened. My guess is one of my grounds might be bad. I didnt notice no other loose wires or anything.
